Broken Facial Vessels
Broken facial vessels or broken facial capillaries are the fine red vessels that appear on nose, chin, or cheeks. Tiny vessels in the skin can be damaged by the effects of the sun, during pregnancy and childbirth, hormone replacement therapy, birth control pills, ageing, and a skin condition called rosacea. A broken facial vessel is not a medical problem but is of concern because it can make your face look unattractive.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Vascular treatment
Vascular IPL treatment uses a wave length of light that is attracted to oxyhaemoglobin, a red pigment in blood. IPL treatment reduces facial vascular blemishes, like the fine thread-like vessels found on cheeks and around the nose, by causing localised damage to the blood vessel when the light energy is absorbed and converts to heat energy. Diffuse redness can also be significantly reduced leaving clearer skin.
An assessment by one of our Nurses is required for diagnosis and skin typing to determine if you are suitable for treatment with IPL. Results vary and up to 4 sessions may be required to obtain optimal results. Your Nurse Technician will advise what the best treatment schedule is for you.
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a procedure that may be indicated to treat broken vessels on the face. In this procedure a sclerosing substance, hypertonic saline, is injected into the tiny blood vessels. This irritates the walls of the blood vessel causing them to shut down. The body then removes the damaged cells resulting in clearer skin.
Short-term side effects such as redness, stinging, swelling and bruising may be observed.
